Four employers under investigation for alleged abuse of Jobs Support Scheme

Almost 2,200 employers are under review.

The police are investigating four employers for allegedly abusing the Jobs Support Scheme.

This came after the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore conducted a review of the JSS.

At least 444 employers have also been denied either full or partial JSS payouts after investigations revealed some employers have abused the program.

The IRAS have selected 2,200 employers to have their July 2020 JSS payouts under review and had their JSS payouts withheld until they are able to submit supporting documents to IRAS to verify the authenticity and accuracy of mandatory CPF contributions made.

“Their payouts would be adjusted or denied if issues are found during the review, and egregious cases would be referred to the police,” the IRAS said..

By the end of September, the IRAS concluded over 1,400 cases and have now denied close to $10m JSS payouts.

The JSS program provides wage support to employers to help them retain their local employees (Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents) during this period of economic uncertainty.
