Guess who gets to take home the fattest paychecks in Singapore startups
They receive over $8,000 monthly, and they're not CEOs.
If you think CEOs are the highest paid individuals in a start-up, then you're in for a surprise. A recent Monk's Hill survey revealed that those in VP Engineering position are usually the ones who go home with overflowing pockets during payday.
According to the survey, the average base salary of C-level execs is more than S$9,000 a month, while that of the VPs is between S$6,000-S$7,000.
However, VP Engineering turns out to be the best-paid by median base salary, recording a median salary of $9,000 per month.
The study furthered that more than 50% of the survey respondents reported that VP Engineering receives more than $8k in base monthly salary.
"This is perhaps not surprising given that most C-level folks are also founders and tend not to pay themselves the most," the Monk's Hill Partner Kuo-Yi Lim said.
He pointed out that this may be due to the difficulty in filling the role for VP Engineering. It is also often considered the first expensive hire.
