COTD: Retrenched employees rise in Q2 amidst business restructuring efforts
The number of retrenched employees in Q2 was 3,270.
The number of retrenched employees in Singapore rose to 3,270 in Q2 2024, from 3,030 in Q1 2024, according to the Ministry of Manpower.
The ministry said that the increase was mainly due to business reorganisation or restructuring.
In addition, the ministry noted that retrenched residents find employment when given more time. In H1 2023, at least 7 in 10 found employment within 12 months after being retrenched.
As of June, the ratio of job vacancies to unemployed persons is 167 to 100.
