Food firm to pay $75,000 fine after violations in foreign manpower act

But the government found that the firm committed no criminal offence.

Japan Foods Enterprises (JFE) is being asked to pay a fine of $75,000 after the government found that it committed breaches under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, its parent firm, Japan Foods Holding Limited, said in a bourse filing.

This stemmed from findings of the Ministry of Manpower’s probe that JFE’s infringements relate to incorrect CPF contributions that allegedly inflated foreign employee entitlement.

“Such errors arose due to administrative oversight. The Board takes this matter seriously and has instructed management to take the necessary steps to ensure that such infringements do not recur,” read the statement.

JFE said it will pay the penalty and work with the ministry on the lifting of a temporary halt for new work pass applications.
