What are Singaporeans' top concerns about renewable transition?

Despite concerns about transition, Singaporeans (61.6%) want fossil fuel subsidies cut.

Singaporeans have expressed concerns about the impacts of the transition to renewable energy, with rising energy prices (65.9%) topping the list of their worries.

The Southeast Asia Climate Outlook Report 2023 said the relatively higher electricity prices in Singapore may have influenced the perception of Singaporeans,

Other impacts of the renewable transition which Singaporeans are concerned about include energy shortages (10.8%), widening of social inequality (9.3%), and loss of jobs (8.6%).

Whilst having concerns about the impact of renewable transition, Singaporeans are supportive of implementing a national carbon tax (53.0%) and cutting fossil fuel subsidies (61.6%).

Singapore set its carbon tax at $5/tCO2e in 2019. By 2024, its carbon tax will be set to $25/tCO2e. Carbon tax will increase anew by 2026 and 2030 to $45/tCO2e and $80/tCO2e, respectively.
