Sembmarine completes offshore windfarm substations for Orsted

This expands Sembmarine’s footprint in renewable and clean energy.

Sembcorp Marine has completed the offshore substation (OSS) and reactive compensation station (RCS) for Orsted Wind Power, which has started shipping from Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard on 15 August to Hornsea Two Offshore Wind Farm in the United Kingdom.

The Hornsea Two is set to be the world’s largest wind farm in 2022, when it starts operation, with a 1.4-gigawatt capacity that could power more than 1.3 million homes.

“These Substations, along with the OSS and RCS jacket foundations that were delivered by Sembcorp Marine in August 2020, demonstrate the group’s commitment to meet the challenge of delivering these structures safely amid this pandemic,” Sembcorp Marine Head of Offshore Platforms Samuel Wong said in a press statement.

The substations are set to reach their destination by end-September.

Sembcorp Marine President and CEO Wong Weng said the company will continue to diversify and expand into clean energy solutions.

“This proactive diversification and expansion strategy is bearing fruit. Green energy solutions comprised approximately 34% of the group’s net order book of S$1.78b as of 30 June 2021,” he said.
