Sembcorp Marine's Ropax ferry 'Dragsvik' sets sail to Norled

The battery-powered vessel can operate at a speed of 10 knots.

Sembcorp Marine Limited has delivered Dragsvik, the second of three zero-emission Ropax ferries built for Norled AS, a Norwegian ferry operator.

The vessel is powered by lithium-ion batteries, which are charged via green hydroelectric power, and has a service speed of 10 knots.

Sembcorp Marine’s ferry, which is based on the design of its subsidiary, LMG Marin AS, can also run on a combined battery-diesel hybrid backup mode if required.

With over 82.4 metres long, Dragsvik has energy-efficient features such as “quick-connection shore charging plugs, auto-mooring, and auto-cross capabilities, efficient hull, propulsion, and heat recovery systems, as well as minimised hotel and auxiliary load solutions.”

It also can accommodate 300 persons, and 80 cars or a combination of up to 10 cars and 10 trailer trucks.

Sembcorp Marine’s first ferry for Norled is Hella, which sailed off from Singapore in March 2022 and started service in May 2022.

Norled’s third Ropax vessel will be completed by the end of 2022, said Sembcorp Marine.

Last week, Sembcorp Marine also announced the delivered a drillship for Transocean’s subsidiary, which could potentially reach its order book to $1.95b.
