Sembcorp to build 6.2MWp rooftop solar farm in Singapore

The panels are expected to power more than 1,500 four-room HDB flats for a year.

Sembcorp will install, own, and operate a rooftop solar farm with a total capacity of 6.2MWp. The panels will be built on top of two facilities owned by a global energy services player.

According to an announcement, the solar farm will help power the on-site operations of the customer at the two locations, with surplus power channelled to the grid. One of the two locations, located in the Tuas area, will also be the largest solar installation on a single rooftop in Singapore to date, with more than 12,700 solar panels amounting to over 4.7MWp.

The farm is expected to produce around 7,435MW-h of power annually, or enough to power more than 1,500 four-room HDB flats for a year. It could also help avoid over 3 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

According to Sembcorp Group president and CEO Neil McGregor, Sembcorp now has over 115MWp of solar power assets in operation and under development. “Sembcorp is actively supporting Singapore in its goal of achieving 350MWp of solar power capacity by 2020,” he said.
