How much petrol can the average Singaporean afford?

With the country’s average net wage of $3,427, an average Singaporean can buy up to 1,598 litres of petrol with a month’s salary, according to a study by Picodi. This is considering that the average price of petrol per litre is around $2.14.

With this, Singapore placed sixth amongst 17 APAC countries included in the study of average wages’ petrol buying power. The research found that an average Singaporean places lower than an average Malaysian who can buy 1,707 litres in a month’s salary, but higher than an average Hongkonger who can buy 983 litres with a month’s salary.

The rankings were topped by countries in the Persian Gulf. The study found that a litre of petrol in Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates can go from around $0.4-0.6, so average salary earners in these areas could buy around 4,900 to 6,500 litres of petrol.

The report used average net wages according to the latest available data provided by offices for national statistics or relevant ministries, as well as the average prices of petrol for the first half of 2019 in over 100 countries.
