Renewable Energy Asia to develop green energy park

Firm awarded a concession in Inner Mongolia to construct wind farm capable of producing 250MW of electricity.

Renewable Energy Asia Group (REA), formerly known as Superior Fastening Technology, has made further inroads into the PRC wind energy business, by securing a concession to develop a Green Energy Park in Zhenglanqi, Inner Mongolia.

Under the terms of the concession, REA Group will spearhead the formation of a consortium to construct a wind farm of up to 250 megawatts (MW) in capacity within the Green Energy Park.

Also contained within the Park, according to a REA release, will be a solar energy farm and a bio-fuel plant, which together with the wind farm will be capable of generating as much as 285MW of electrical power, and reducing more than 500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission annually. The utilisation of natural resources to produce renewable energy is in line with the PRC's push towards a reduction in the consumption of environmentally harmful fossil fuel.

Green Energy Park is expected to be completed in five years' time.

Along with this, REA Group will also build and operate a manufacturing plant for renewable energy equipment and components, such as wind turbine towers and photovoltaic panels, to support the development of the Park into a showcase for Zhenglanqi's green initiatives, according to a REA report.

The Green Energy Park concession marks yet another milestone for REA Group since it announced its intention to enter the wind energy business in October 2009. Just two weeks ago, the Company was awarded a $7.4 million contract to design, manufacture and supply wind turbine towers for a 49.5MW wind farm in another part of Inner Mongolia. In addition, the Company also signed an agreement earlier this year with Da An county in the PRC's Jilin province to conduct a feasibility study in relation to the construction of an onshore wind farm.
