Alstom to build gas-fired cogen plant in Jurong

Alstom has been selected by Sembcorp to build a new 800-megawatt gas-fired combined cycle cogeneration plant in Singapore's Jurong island.

In a statement on Wednesday, Alstom said the construction of the plant would be carried out in two phases of 400 MW each.

"The engineering, procurement and construction for both phases is worth approximately US$688 million.

"This includes, for each phase, the supply of the entire unit and all associated equipment, including a GT26 gas turbine, steam turbine, turbo generator, heat recovery steam generator and ALSPA Series 6 integrated control system," it said.

The order for the 400 MW phase one, signed yesterday and worth approximately US$412.8 million, included a 18-year maintenance contract.

With the new plant, Sembcorp will roughly double its generation capacity in Singapore to over 1,600 MW, strengthening its position in Singapore's power market.

Alstom has a strong relationship with Sembcorp and built its existing gas-fired cogeneration plant, which is also Singapore's first cogen plant.

President of Alstom Power, Philippe Joubert, said the new order from Sembcorp was a demonstration of the performance, reliability and availability of the equipment.

"It is a milestone that underlines Alstom's competitiveness for combined cycle power plants in the region, and our ability to provide and service turnkey power plants," he said.
