Field Catering & Supplies Pte Ltd wins Designed in Singapore Award for Beverage

Riding on the bubble milk tea craze, the company launched the very first bubble tea in a bottle in Singapore.

Singapore Business Review acknowledged the most innovative products that have been established as industry trailblazers during the recently concluded Made and Designed in Singapore Awards.

Back on its third year to merit noteworthy products manufactured and conceptualised in the Lion City, this year’s awards programme recognised companies who defined Singaporean workmanship and innovations.

Field Catering & Supplies Pte Ltd won the Designed in Singapore Award in the Beverage category by coming up with Polar Bubble Tea, Singapore’s first ready-to-drink bubble tea.

As an established brand in Singapore’s food and beverage industry, Field Catering & Supplies (FCS) has been involved in the production, marketing, importing and distribution of quality beverages and snacks in both the domestic and international markets since 1986, with more than 20 brands under them.

The company has a strong distribution network for its products, covering offline and online retailers, petrol stations, pharmacies, general retail & on-premises outlets, businesses and institutional customers.

Crafted with the city-state’s growing health-conscious individuals in mind, Polar Bubble Tea substitutes konjac pearls for the typical tapioca pearls found in most bubble teas. Konjac pearls has almost no calories and contains high fibre. The product is also preservative-free and has no added artificial colouring. Konjac is a common name of the Asian herb, Amorphophallus konjac, which has an edible corm that grows underground and is used as a rich source of soluble dietary fiber.

With the resurgence of the bubble tea phenomenon, FCS has finally come up with the final product which has captured the attention of media outlets and food bloggers. This was only made possible after countless rounds of research and development, and going back to the roots of bubble tea, Taiwan, to find the best manufacturer who could produce what FCS has envisioned it to be.

One of the challenges faced was the tapioca pearls. These pearls are cooked in hot water with added sugar for up to three hours, giving them the sweet taste and chewy ‘QQ’ texture. However, the tapioca pearls could neither maintain its shape, nor its chewy texture, after cooling and keeping in the bottle. This resulted in hardened pearls, which also greatly reduce the chewing experience of the consumers.

POLAR Bubble Tea’s gaining popularity as Singapore’s neighbourhood bubble tea has prompted the company to launch two new flavours: Roasted Oolong bubble milk tea, which is an evergreen flavour available in almost all the bubble tea shops, and the other is Brown Sugar bubble milk drink, which started the bubble tea craze all over again.

POLAR Bubble Tea fits well in Singapore’s fast-paced society, since those who wish to satisfy their bubble tea cravings no longer have to wait for the barista to craft their brew. Economically, Polar Bubble Tea is also cheaper compared to a medium cup of its closest competition and always available, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Made in Singapore and Designed in Singapore Awards, presented by Singapore Business Review, was held on 28 November 2019 at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore.
