RHB Singapore receives accolade at SBR International Business Awards 2024 for its ESG programme

The initiative has inspired its staff to actively embody sustainability principles.

RHB Singapore bagged the win in the Banking category at the recent SBR International Business Awards 2024 for its groundbreaking initiative, “Caring for our Coasts.” This initiative reflects a transformative journey towards sustainability both within and beyond the organisation.

Since 2021, RHB Singapore has been embarking on this sustainability journey in response to the critical imperatives for climate action and sustainability, through the “Caring for our Coasts” initiative.

The overarching goal of the initiative is to drive organisational change and encourage staff to actively embody sustainability principles. Specific targets include heightening employee awareness and engagement, fostering a positive shift in organisational culture, and earning recognition for their efforts.

“Caring for our Coasts” employs a multifaceted approach to ESG initiatives, placing a strong emphasis on organisational change. Beyond educating staff, the strategy included innovative initiatives such as sustainability workshops, video campaigns featuring top leadership, and the successful inaugural RHB Beach clean-up initiative at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal Beach.

The beach clean-up initiative demonstrated RHB’s commitment to environmental stewardship and served as a team-building and family-bonding activity. With participation from staff and their families, the initiative resulted in the collection of 519kg of trash within an impressive span of less than two hours, significantly contributing to keeping local beaches clean.

Through effective communication and direct involvement from leadership, the “Caring for our Coasts” initiative successfully navigated initial challenges. Consequently, it also laid the foundation for responsible business practices, symbolising RHB Singapore’s commitment to ESG principles and fostering a culture of sustainability.

In instilling a sense of responsibility and stewardship for coastal environments, the project not only transformed employee engagement within RHB Singapore but also showcased the organisation’s dedication to preserving coastlines for future generations.

Looking ahead, RHB Singapore envisions expanding the campaign and integrating sustainability into more product offerings.
