LogRhythm Next Gen SIEM wins big in SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2022

The project empowered the Salvation Army Australia to achieve a game-changing cybersecurity posture.

Cybersecurity may be a blind spot for many non-profits, as they are focused on channelling their resources to champion their cause. As such, threat actors often view these organisations as easy targets to infiltrate and disrupt. Being an international organisation operating in this environment, Salvation Army Australia understood that it is important to mature its security operations to mitigate operational risks.

As Salvation Army’s operations grew in the country, it became increasingly reliant on core IT systems that are used in resource planning, budgeting, record-keeping, and communication with clients. The infrastructure is made up of a complex array of hardware that supports several critical software applications and holds sensitive data.

Considering these factors, Salvation Army Australia decided to deploy the LogRhythm NextGen SIEM Platform to bridge any gaps in their visibility.

LogRhythm provided the organisation with visibility across its entire IT infrastructure. With LogRhythm, the security team are now able to gain insights into issues and incidents that would not previously be possible without trawling through endless logs manually or paying third parties to conduct audits.

The platform’s Case Management functionality provides a centralised repository for relevant evidence and the ability to add other analysts to cases that enable seamless collaboration. This      enabled swift detection and mitigation of threats in a 24/7 manned virtual security operations centre. It can likewise unify security events and collaborate on any common threat vectors.

LogRhythm’s patented risk-based monitoring and prioritisation uses environmental risk characteristics and threat context to assign risk-based scores to all events and alarms, reducing alarm fatigue and helping analysts focus attention on review and mitigation of the most impactful security events.

According to the company, LogRhythm’s built-in capabilities eliminated the need to purchase separate User Entity and Behaviour Analytics (UEBA), Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR), analytics, and log management tools. This subsequently reduced both upfront and ongoing costs.

With over 1,650 prebuilt, out-of-the-box modules and rules, the security team turned on their deployment and got immediate value. Once the SIEM was fully operational, the Salvation Army IT team receive alerts and intelligence within a day.

By deploying the LogRhythm NextGen SIEM platform, Salvation Army Australia reduced overall risk exposure and workload for its IT team’s workload with automation capabilities. The IT team is able to react to threats much faster without being overly fatigued. Due to these factors, the judging panel decided to award the company with the SIEM – Computer Software award in the SBR Technology Excellence Awards, hosted by Singapore Business Review.

The annual awards programme highlights technological innovations, recognising exceptional companies in Singapore that are riding the digital disruption wave and leading the technological revolution and digital journeys of their respective industries.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
