Charles Monat Associates Philanthropy Efforts in Fighting Childhood Pneumonia

The firm has joined forces with local government officials to raise awareness on the effects of pneumonia and how to tackle them.

At international life insurance broker Charles Monat Associates, leaving a legacy is about more than just passing on wealth, it is the values one inspires in others to create meaningful change that can be passed down from generation to generation. Their mission is clear: help clients plan for their future, whilst helping to establish a more sustainable society for the next generation.

Based on shared values and a belief that every child deserves a future, Charles Monat Associates partnered with Save the Children, a leading humanitarian organisation that champions the rights and interests of children worldwide, to fight childhood pneumonia in Indonesia through medical intervention administered.

This initiative comes as data from humanitarian aid organisation UNICEF revealed that a child dies of pneumonia every 43 seconds globally. Advanced pneumonia left untreated is one of the leading causes of death for children in developing countries where these kids have no access to vaccine immunisation and health care assistance.

As such, over the past 3 years, they have worked on a funding programme to enforce a total of 29 in-hospital medical facilities across Central Lombok, Indonesia, as well as to form a total of 310 pop-up medical huts. 283 respected members of the local health community in the hospitals, as well as 1100 front-line health care community workers have been trained and certified on treating child pneumonia.

Charles Monat Associates has also joined forces with local government authorities to impart knowledge to the locals through radio talk shows, educational banners, videos, and free training to mothers and caregivers. As a result, over 551,000 locals have received medical assistance to prevent childhood deaths under the age of 5, out of a population of 3.8 million locals from year 2021 to 2023.

The parties have also produced a decree on standard operating procedures (SOPs) that now serve as daily guidelines for standardised practices in all of Central Lombok, acknowledged and finalised by UNICEF in 2023. 

This project has been recognised on a global level for setting the gold standard on how effective charitable work should be done. As such, Save the Children on behalf of Charles Monat Associates had been invited to share the impact of the initiative at the American and European Healthcare Conference for healthcare workers and policy makers in 2023.

Moreover, a group of Australian parliamentarians and healthcare policymakers have also visited its philanthropy onsite in Lombok in January 2024 to learn more about the project.

The success of Charles Monat Associates has been acknowledged by the SBR International Business Awards 2024, with the company winning the Insurance Broker category.
