ST Engineering unveils new range of autonomous buses

The STROBO Series 12 bus is being tested out until early 2020.

ST Engineering unveiled a new range of autonomous vehicle platforms under the STROBO portfolio brand at the ITS World Congress 2019, according to a press release.

The STROBO Series 12 bus is currently undergoing trials on an extended route between Sakra Region and Jurong Island Checkpoint until early 2020. Two of these buses will then undergo further operational trials in providing selected feeder and trunk bus services in Singapore.

The project is a collaborative effort with the Singapore Autonomous Vehicle Research Consortium, which the group is part of, along with the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore University of Technology and Design.

The STROBO Series 7 bus, an offshoot of a partnership with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD will be fitted with the ST Engineering AV kit.

The group is also working to introduce an AV shuttle in Israel, which will undergo platform testing and certification. It is also exploring the sales of autonomous vehicles to Japan in partnership with bus operator Willers.

ST Engineering has also formed a consortium with Siemens, SBS Transit, Willers, SafeRide and RideOS to explore the commercialisation and export its autonomous transport solutions.
