Get to know Singapore’s leading firms at the inaugural Business Rankings Awards 2014

Nearly 100 executives flocked to the event.

Singapore Business Review set out to recognize the country’s trailblazing professionals at the inaugural Business Rankings Awards 2014 held yesterday at Shangri-La Singapore.

The awarding ceremony, attended by nearly 100 executives, recognized companies which made it to SBR's objective rankings of leading firms by size across all major industries in the city.

SBR's publisher Tim Charlton presented the awards to participating firms, which included Rankine & Hill, the 13th largest engineering firm; Ong & Ong, the 6th largest architecture firm; JCU Singapore, the 3rd largest MBA provider; CPG Consultants, the 3rd and 4th largest architecture and engineering firm; Design Link Architects, the 13th largest architecture firm; and ERA, the largest real estate agency.

SBR has been ranking some of Singapore’s biggest industries in the past two years. The rankings began with country’s largest accounting firms based on total employment.

As for many cases, the number of employees varies from time to time as companies in perfect competition try to maximize profits.

A firm which has grown in size implies that it has matured and has survived amidst tight competition, not only in attracting clients but also in retaining talents.

Ranking by size is simply based on the number of professionals retained by each firm and is an objective standard for gauging a firm’s competence.

Succeeding industries that SBR covered are the legal, commercial banking, property brokerage, architecture, and engineering.

Special metrics were used to other industries such as the hotel, serviced apartments, MBA, and insurance. The hotels and serviced apartments were ranked based on their total number of rooms or units while the size of MBA schools and programmes were determined by the number of students. Lastly, the insurance firms were ranked based on their total assets.

The ceremony also recognized the country’s most influential young professionals who made it to SBR's much-talked about 40 and under lists.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

You're the reader we write for. You're also the person our partners want to reach.

If that sentence describes you — a founder, a C-suite, someone whose attention companies pay good money for — then you already understand why SBR works. We've spent twenty years earning the trust of readers exactly like you. Which is exactly what makes this an interesting place for your company to show up, too.

The ways it can show up are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The right fit depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If your company has something this audience should know about, we'd like to hear what you're working on.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.

30 One-Sentence Stories From People Who Have Built Better Habits
None of these stories are mine. They were sent to me by readers of Atomic Habits. My hope is that these examples will illustrate how real people are putting the book into practice. They will show you what people are actually doing to build good habits and break bad ones. And hopefully, they will spark some ideas for how you can do the same.
