Employment landscape in Singapore remains dynamic despite global uncertainty
The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly made its presence felt in the job market of Singapore. Although there's been a rise in job opportunities and a low unemployment rate, some companies have had to reduce their workforce, particularly in the tech sector. But the good news is that most companies are looking to hire, with over 80% actively seeking new employees, according to a recent survey by Job Street.
Employers are realizing that to attract and retain the best talent, they need to focus on what their employees value. That's why they're putting emphasis on factors like salaries and benefits, work-life balance, flexible work arrangements, and opportunities for career growth. Many companies have already raised salaries by 5-10% across the board and provided bonuses, and are also improving financial benefits, offering training, and providing better mental health support for their employees. Having a more employee friendly benefits such as flexible working hours and mental health support are all becoming more common.
Because of the pandemic, employees' priorities have shifted. With the concept of hybrid work model, the camaraderie of team members and their manager placed a much higher value. while other factors, such as salaries and work-life balance are still important, the relationship between a worker and their manager is becoming increasingly crucial to the job satisfaction.
