SG’s Grid Digital Twin aims to improve power supply management

This was created in collaboration with government agencies, industry players and research experts.

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the SP Group announced the Grid Digital Twin project, aimed at ensuring grid reliability and supporting cleaner energy sources.

Supported by the EMA, SP and and the Science and Technology Policy and Plans Office (S&TPPO) under the Prime Minister’s Office, the project is a virtual representation of physical power grid assets and network. This operates using real-time and historical data. 

Two key models make up the project, the Asset Twin1 for health management of grid assets and Network Twin2, for assessment of impact on the grid when connecting new energy sources.

Currently in its prototype phase, the project is expected to be developed over the next few years. 

Benefits of the project include  improving network planning analysis and remote monitoring of asset conditions, as well as planning of infrastructure for different needs.

The project was initiated in tandem with the Singapore Green Plan 2030, wherein the country is looking to greener sources of energy supply.
