Sembcorp Marine, SP Group to develop solar energy digital system

It will reduce 30% of grid-supplied electricity during peak load.

Sembcorp Marine and Singapore Power Group (SP) inked a deal to develop a solar energy digital system at the local Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard.

According to a press release, the system combines 4.5 MegaWatt peak (MWp) solar panels to be installed atop the Tuas Boulevard steel fabrication workshop.

The system will generate and manage solar power to effectively reduce 30% of grid-supplied electricity consumed at the yard’s steel structure fabrication workshop during peak load.

The solar rooftop will deliver up to 5.38GWh of energy annually – enough to power almost 17,000 four-room flats and reduce 2,500 tonnes of carbon emissions per year

Sembcorp Marine added, besides the solar rooftop, the digital energy-saving system at Tuas Boulevard Yard will feature energy storage capabilities, energy sensors and a real-time digital platform to monitor, analyse and optimise energy usage in the yard.

The Sembcorp Marine-SP project will begin in early 2018, and is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of the year.
