PUB appoints Black & Veatch to develop Marina East desalination plant

It will be Singapore’s fourth desalination plant.

The Singapore Public Utilities Board (PUB) has chosen Black & Veatch to provide consultancy services for Singapore’s fourth desalination plant.

According to a media release by Black & Veatch, the Marina East desalination plant is planned with a capacity of 36 MGD, and will help meet future water demand in the city area. It is also expected to strengthen Singapore’s drought resilience.

Further, it will be designed to treat two different water sources: seawater from the Singapore Straits, or raw water from the Marina Reservoir.

Initially, Black & Veatch’s role will include the preliminary design for the development of the plant under a design-build-own-operate (DBOO) arrangement. It will continue to provide services to PUB throughout the plant’s development, though.

The request for proposal for the plant’s development in Marina East under the DBOO arrangement will be made in 2016’s second quarter.
