Singapore and Malaysia will reveal decision for RTS and HSR soon: Khaw Boon Wan

It will be a win-win deal for both countries, according to Malaysian minister Azmin Ali.

Neighbouring countries Singapore and Malaysia will be able to announce their joint decisions regarding the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) and the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) projects soon, Singapore transport minister Khaw Booh Wan said.

In a Facebook post, Khaw said that he and Malaysia’s minister for economic affairs Azmin Ali are always having delightful meetings when brainstorming ideas on improving their countries’ bilateral relationship. According to Khaw, Ali is an ‘inspiring leader’.

“There is so much we can do together, for mutual benefits,” Khaw said.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian minister also posted about the said meeting in his Twitter account.

“We are inching closer to a win-win deal on HSR, thanks to the hard work of officials from both sides,” the official noted through his Twitter.

In July, Malaysia has approved the RTS ‘in principle’. Malaysian transport minister Anthony Loke, however, said that it is still looking into the cost as well as other final details for the project.

Meanwhile, the HSR project has been suspended. In May, then opposition leader and current Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad said that the country would drop the project due to its huge cost but had not filed a formal rejection to Singapore since then.
