Public transport payment via Visa to go live on June 6

The LTA already made the contactless payment service available with Mastercard in April.

Commuters can soon use their contactless Visa cards to pay for public transportation from June 6 after the Land Transport Authority (LTA) expanded SimplyGo which previously only included Mastercard.

Since its launch on April 4, 2019, there was an average of over 120,000 daily trips paid via SimplyGo, which enables commuters to use contactless cards or mobile wallets on transit, eliminating the need to top-up.

Commuters can also sign up for a SimplyGo account to view travel history and fares via the website and mobile app.

“With the inclusion of Visa, more commuters will benefit,” Yeo Teck Guan, LTA Senior Group Director, Public Transport, said in a statement.

Visa expects the expansion of SimplyGo to push contactless penetration to over 80% in Singapore.

By end-2019, commuters can also start upgrading their existing travel cards, such as concession or NETS FlashPay cards, and unlock SimplyGo benefits like topping up on-the-go via their account.
