LTA to begin trials for battery charging and swapping systems for e-HGVs

The trials will run for four years.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will commence trials for a new battery charging and swapping system (BCSS) and mobile charging systems (MCS) designed for electric heavy goods vehicles (e-HGVs).

The trials, which will run for four years, will gradually start in the second half of 2024.
 
PSA Corporation and a consortium comprising Strides Frontiers Pte Ltd and Ecoswift Pte Ltd will be involved in the BCSS trials.

PSA Corporation will deploy a BCSS station within its Pasir Panjang port terminal to support six terminal electric prime movers and two on-road electric Inter Gateway Hauliers.

Meanwhile, the Strides Frontiers-led consortium will partner with local logistics firms to provide e-HGV battery swapping services for up to 10 vehicles. 

LTA will set up a BCSS station at Tuas, where the consortium will implement asset and route optimisation plans for the participating fleet of e-HGVs.

Participating in the MCS trials are Power-Up Tech and Beecharge Innovation Group.

“Power-Up Tech will provide up to 10 sets of mobile charging equipment with one charger each to support the charging of electric vehicles, including vans, trucks, and buses. Beecharge Innovation Group will deploy up to eight sets of mobile charging equipment to support shared EV providers and commercial fleet operators,” the LTA said.
