Gov’t yet to receive proposals from Malaysia on KL-SG high-speed rail project

Malaysia has earlier sought proposals for the development of high-speed rail.

Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said Singapore has not received proposals from Malaysia yet for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project.

Tat, however, told the Parliament that the government is willing to discuss any new proposal from the rail project from Malaysia “in good faith” and “from a clean slate.

Malaysia has already begun seeking proposals for the development of the HSR through the Request For Information (RFI) exercise launched by MyHSR Corporation.

The RFI exercise will enable the private sector to submit concept proposals to develop and operate the HSR project via a public-private partnership model.

When asked about Singapore’s plans for the rail project and if it will still pass Jurong, Tat said: “[The] RFI exercise is [being] conducted by the Malaysians. What are the plans?  I think we have to receive the proposal and  then we can study the proposal.”

“We will keep an open mind on what are the possibilities to have a win-win arrangement between Singapore and Malaysia,” Tat added.
