Downtown Line 2 Beauty World station to get revamped

Jalan Jurong Kechil will be partially closed.

According to a release, the Land Transport Authority will be closing a section of Jalan Jurong Kechil between Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Anak Bukit from Sunday, 9 December 2012 to end 2013 to facilitate the construction of Downtown Line 2 Beauty World station. Motorist will be diverted to Bukit Timah Link.

To ensure connectivity of the road network and safety of motorists during the closure period, the following improvements will be made:

The existing road junction at Upper Bukit Timah Road/Jalan Jurong Kechil will be shifted to Bukit Timah Link; and

The existing T-junction at Bukit Timah Link/Upper Bukit Timah Road/Bukit Timah Link will be widened and converted into a cross-road junction with traffic lights installed.

Motorists travelling along Jalan Jurong Kechil or Upper Bukit Timah Road heading towards the PIE (and vice versa) will be directed to the widened Bukit Timah Link at its new Jalan Anak Bukit junction. There will also be directional and informational signs along the affected road to inform and guide motorists.

Relocation of Bus Stop

During the closure, the current bus stop along Jalan Jurong Kechil (near Goh and Goh Building) will be shifted to a temporary location 200m away along the widened Bukit Timah Link (near Bukit View Condominium). Bus services (52, 61, 66, 66B, 77, 157, 174, 970 & 985) will continue to call at the relocated bus stop at Bukit Timah Link. There will be no change to bus fares.

Business activities in the vicinity will continue as usual during the road closure. There will be directional signages to guide shoppers and pedestrians.

Construction works at the Downtown Line 2 Beauty World station is progressing on schedule. The bored tunnels towards King Albert Park station have been completed and railway tracks will be laid from third quarter of next year. Major structural works for the station are targeted to be completed by third quarter of 2014.

The 16.6-km long DTL2 comprises 12 stations and one depot. When completed in 2015, DTL2 will link commuters from Bukit Panjang and Bukit Timah to the North East Line, North South Line and the Circle Line, giving them greater accessibility to the rest of the island and significantly improving travel time. It will link the north-western part of the island and significantly through DTL1 to commercial, residential and entertainment developments in the Marina Bay area.
