Grab has launched a safety training for delivery riders switching to bicycles, promising free smart helmets to those who complete the course. This follows the recent ban of personal mobility devices (PMDs) on footpaths.

Together with Asian Detours, a facilitator of the Safe Riding Programme appointed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), GrabFood has designed a new training course to educate riders on traffic rules, safety checks, vehicle maintenance and navigating traffic scenarios.

Upon completing the training course, Grab riders will receive a smart helmet produced by Singapore startup Lumos.

The helmet, which retails for $245 (US$180), features lights that make riders more visible and serve as turn signals, controlled by a mobile app.

Amazon will invest in widening the selection of offerings in its two-year-old Prime service in Singapore.

“We certainly listened to members and heard several things,” Amazon Prime’s vice president Jamil Ghani told CNA. “One is that they want even more selection. Two, they want a broader range of delivery options.”

To meet these demands, Amazon will be expanding its domestic offerings on the Prime Now delivery service app, as well as its range of international goods. Prime Video and gaming service Twitch Prime, which Prime members have access to, will also see more popular global content.

US- and Singapore-based biotech startup RWDC Industries will receive investment from Indonesia-based Kresna Graha Investama, through its subsidiary Kresna Biotech Ventures.

It did not share further details of their investment plans for the company.

RWDC Industries is a biotech company with the mission to replace oil-based disposable plastic with a biodegradable counterpart, made of safe and sustainable materials.

Samumed, from its base in San Diego, is a medical research and development company that focuses on tissue-level regeneration. It is developing the therapy for various degenerative diseases and oncology.
