Consortium to test charging abilities of ECVS on commercial e-vehicles in SG

The Busways-Shell Consortium is accepting corporate enquiries for trial testing.

The consortium of Busways and Shell is accepting corporate enquiries of e-buses and other forms of heavy-duty EVs for a period of up to 12 months, until August 2024, to fill in the gaps in EV charging in Lion City. 

On 28 June 2023, the Busways-Shell Consortium established a proof-of-concept (POC) showcase to test the deployment and maintenance of the highest-powered rating Electric Vehicle Charging System (EVCS) in Singapore. 

It provides up to 360kW ultra-fast EV charging, which is the highest charger rating certified for commercial usage in Singapore at present, and will address the challenges of many EV fleet owners.

The Busways-Shell Consortium’s objective of the POC, established at Woodlands Spectrum, is to work closely with selected EVCS OEMs to understand the ways of working and the best methods to install, operate and maintain high-powered chargers in Singapore. 

“The POC showcases an EVCS cable management system, which includes features such as the retractable cabling which is designed with safety of the drivers in mind to minimise the pulling force by 50% and also reduce tripping hazards,” read the statement.

“This retractable cable management feature protects the cables when they are retracted to the holder, reducing the wear-and-tear normally caused when cables are left exposed on the ground for significant periods,” it added.

The POC will also show a Charging Station Management System (CSMS) that provides energy management and fleet management solutions to address different levels of grid constraints. 

Overall, it will demonstrate innovative technical solutions in Singapore, which account for space constraints and the design of EVCS deployments for commercial customers.
