ComfortDelGro acquires 90% stake of medical transport provider

The acquisition is worth $8.5m.

ComfortDelGro Corporation will acquire a 90% stake in Ming Chuan Transportation, one of the largest wheelchair transport service providers in Singapore, for $8.5m.

The acquisition, which will be conducted through ComfortDelGro MedCare, will comprise Ming Chuan's entire fleet of 76 vehicles, as well as 86 of its staff and drivers. Upon completion of the acquisition, ComfortDelGro MedCare will have a total fleet of 92 vehicles, cementing its position as the largest wheelchair transport service provider in Singapore.

ComfortDelGro MedCare CEO Lim Tien Hock said, "This opportunity has come at a time of increased demand for transportation services for mobility-impaired passengers and senior citizens. The healthcare sector has seen strong growth in the last two years amidst the pandemic. With this acquisition, we are confident we can reach out to more passengers with mobility issues and better serve them with our dedicated and trained staff."

ComfortDelGro MedCare, which was launched in March 2021, provides medical escort transport services as well as specialised transportation services to those with mobility issues, including wheelchair users, persons with disabilities and senior citizens, as well as groups from healthcare or daycare centres, medical institutions and social service agencies such as the Agency for Integrated Care. Meanwhile, founded in 2004 as a professional wheelchair transport company in Singapore, Ming Chuan currently has six clients who operate a network of daycare and physical disability centres across Singapore.
