4 new MRT stations to begin operations on June 18

The Tuas West Extension could serve 100,000 commuters daily.

The Land Transport Authority announced that the Tuas West Extension comprising four above-ground stations will be starting its operations starting June 18.

The four stations – Gul Circle, Tuas Crescent, Tuas West Road and Tuas Link – are expected to serve 100,000 commuters daily.

The new extension promises significant time savings, especially those working in Jurong and Tuas Industrial estates.

"For example, a journey from Ang Mo Kio to Tuas West can be cut by about 35 minutes from about 100 minutes currently, to 65 minutes with the new extension," LTA said in a statement.

To further improve transfers between rail and bus for commuters as well as the overall accessibility to the area, LTA will also be enhancing the existing bus service network. Operational details of the TWE and the enhanced bus network will be shared in the coming weeks.

The TWE will operate on the new signalling system that we will be using on the rest of the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL). Besides the four stations, the TWE project also includes the construction of the Tuas viaduct, which opened on February 18 this year, as well as a 26-hectare integrated depot, which provides stabling and maintenance facilities for up to 60 trains, including the additional 13 NSEWL trains purchased for the TWE.

LTA will be having an open house two days before the starting day of operations. All four stations will be opened to public from 12pm to 8pm for free.
