2 in 3 of Grab's new services are derived from old Uber products

The first service, GrabAssist which was built on Uber Assist, will accommodate foldable wheelchairs and walkers starting today.

Grab added three new offerings to its vehicle service suite: GrabAssist, GrabCar Plus, and GrabFamily (Ages 1 – 3). According to an announcement, the expanded number of services "gives driver-partners more options to earn an income through Grab."

GrabAssist was built on UberAssist, whilst Grab Family (Ages 1-3) will be similarly priced to Uber Car Seat.

The first service, GrabAssist, will allow vehicles to accommodate foldable wheelchairs, walkers, and collapsible scooters starting today. "The fleet is served by around 1,000 private-hire car and taxi driver-partners from partnering fleets, who have been trained by the Agency for Integrated Care to provide assistance to passengers with mobility challenges. This includes theoretical and practical training in areas such as safety in transferring passengers in and out of cars, dementia awareness, as well as hygiene and emergency preparedness," the company said.

GrabAssist is priced marginally higher than JustGrab, with a lower commission rate of 10% to reimburse drivers for their time spent on training and supporting passengers.

The second new service, GrabCar Plus, that will be rolled out by the end of the month. GrabCar Plus will offer better and newer cars that are slightly more spacious and generally less than 3 years old, with basic in-car amenities including mobile phone chargers, air-freshener, and tissue boxes. GrabCar Plus will be priced between JustGrab and GrabCar Premium services.

Meanwhile, by end-June, families with toddlers aged one to three can expect a new service, GrabFamily (Ages 1 – 3). Each GrabFamily (Ages 1 – 3) car will come equipped with an IMMI Go car seat, operated by drivers who have been fully trained on proper installation and use of the seat throughout the journey. This will complement GrabFamily (Ages 4 – 7), which is an option that offers a mifold child booster seat for children aged four to seven.

"All former Uber Car Seat drivers are invited to sign up for GrabFamily (Ages 1 – 3) for additional income opportunities," Grab said.

Grab Singapore head Lim Kell Jay commented, “We want to help eliminate the need for vehicle ownership, provide more income opportunities for driver-partners, and serve the community across multiple aspects of their daily lives – commute, eat, food delivery and pay.”

These new offerings follow Grab's acquisition of Uber's Southeast Asian operations, which indicated the latter's exit in the region and the ownership of a 27.5% stake in Grab. Competition concerns have arisen after the ride-hailing giants' transaction, prompting the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) to impose some competition measures on the two companies.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

You're the reader we write for. You're also the person our partners want to reach.

If that sentence describes you — a founder, a C-suite, someone whose attention companies pay good money for — then you already understand why SBR works. We've spent twenty years earning the trust of readers exactly like you. Which is exactly what makes this an interesting place for your company to show up, too.

The ways it can show up are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The right fit depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If your company has something this audience should know about, we'd like to hear what you're working on.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.

None of these stories are mine. They were sent to me by readers of Atomic Habits. My hope is that these examples will illustrate how real people are putting the book into practice. They will show you what people are actually doing to build good habits and break bad ones. And hopefully, they will spark some ideas for how you can do the same.
