Woodsville Tunnel completion to ease traffic soon

The improved tunnel network will become operational starting January 28.

Woodsville Tunnel consists of three new road tunnels linking Upper Serangoon Road to Bendemeer Road, Serangoon Road to Upper Serangoon Road, and MacPherson Road to Bendemeer Road.

Woodsville Tunnel is part of a massive $130 million upgrading project for the Woodsville Interchange that began in 2008, said the Land Transportation Authority.

The department expects the new tunnels to decongest the affected roads and cut down commuter travel times.

"The opening of the WVT will improve overall traffic flow at the heavily-utilised vehicular interchange. Motorists travelling between Upper Serangoon Road and Bendemeer Road, Serangoon Road and Upper Serangoon Road as well as MacPherson Road and Bendemeer Road will now be able to use the road tunnel as a direct link, bypassing the signalised junction at the surface. As a significant amount of traffic is expected to use the new road tunnels, motorists using the signalised junction to travel to the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) will also benefit from the improved traffic flow," said LTA.

"Motorists using the WVT can expect smoother traffic flow and times savings, particularly during peak hours, due to the improved traffic flow. For example, a motorist travelling from Upper Serangoon Road to Bendemeer Road will have his travel time cut from 10 minutes currently to 4 minutes by using the new WVT during peak hours," it added.

Additional works that will further improve traffic conditions in the area include reinstatement and reconfiguration works to the Woodsville junction.
