URA teams up with Grab to study travel patterns of Singapore commuters

Data gathered will be used for land use planning for better travel time and commuter convenience.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) tapped Grab to look into travel patterns of commuters in Singapore through a one-year joint analysis of land use and mobility data.

The joint study is set to study and obtain better insights on the types and time of journeys as well as travel patterns of local commuters who utilise ride-hailing services.

By working with URA to combine data from both the private and public sector, we hope to improve the efficiency of Singapore's transport network and better support the nation’s urban planning efforts," Grab Singapore head Lim Kell Jay commented.

URA noted that information gathered will be utilised in the planning of land use and infrastructure to help Singaporeans with travel time and convenience in commuting.

“With more information, we can better identify gaps, offer data-driven solutions and improve planning outcomes for the public,” URA deputy CEO Han Yong Hoe said. “An accurate understanding of the ground also ensures that we continue to be responsive to the changing needs of the city.”
