LTA to install CCTVs to prevent illegal parking

Watch out for it at 30 selected locations.

According to a release, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will install Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) at 30 locations island-wide to deter illegal parking. 

The CCTVs will be installed progressively from the second quarter of 2013, with all to be completed by 2014. This is part of the Authority’s on-going initiative to use technologies such as enforcement camera systems to optimize resources needed for parking enforcement, and to improve traffic flow.

The expansion of this initiative follows the successful trial on the use of CCTVs along Beach Road (in front of Golden Mile Complex), and at Marine Parade Central (in front of Parkway Parade Shopping Centre).

At both locations, the use of CCTVs has proven to be effective in detecting and deterring illegal parking. This has helped to improve traffic conditions in the area over time.

The 30 locations are public roads distributed across the island. Two tenders for the installation and operations of the CCTVs, separated into two packages, will be called today.

The CCTVs will be operational 24 hours daily and prominent signages advising motorists not to park illegally will be put up in the monitoring zones. Motorists are advised to look out for parking restriction lines and observe parking regulations.

LTA will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the CCTVs after implementation and review the need for expansion to other areas where necessary.
