LTA to enhance MRT connectivity

And no more sweating at elevated MRT stations upon installation of fans.

To enhance accessibility and connectivity to MRT stations, the Land Transport Authority will be upgrading three MRT stations: Clementi, Commonwealth and Queenstown. LTA said this is to cater to expected growth in travel demand due to new developments in these areas.

New station entrances equipped with fare gates and ticketing machines will be constructed at these three MRT stations. Each station will also have an additional pedestrian link bridge linking the station to the pavements on both sides of the roads.

In the announcement LTA said, “These enhancements will help to alleviate congestion on the existing link bridges of the three stations, especially during morning and evening peak periods, and provide commuters with greater convenience and comfort. Works at the stations are expected to start in mid-2012 and completed by mid-2015.”

LTA will also be embarking on an island-wide project to fit all 36 elevated MRT stations with fans to improve the air circulation at station platforms. Either high volume low speed fans or jet fans will be installed, depending on the structure of the station roof. The installation of the fans is expected to start in the first quarter of 2012 and is expected to complete by the first quarter of 2013.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
