Committee investigating MRT disruptions submits final report

The Ministry of Transport will soon announce the committee's recommendations that should prevent a repeat of the December service mishap.

"The Committee has put forth a number of recommendations to improve the reliability of MRT services, as well as incident management processes," said Minister for Transport, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, who received the report from the Committee of Inquiry (COI) that was appointed to inquire into the disruption of MRT train services on 15 and 17 December 2011.

"The COI expressed confidence that the recommendations in the report, when carried out, will greatly reduce the likelihood of similar occurrences in future and improve the management of such incidents should they recur," said the Ministry of Transport (MOT) in a release, with the committee basing their recommendations on evidence heard from 116 witnesses over six weeks beginning 16 April 2012.

The Ministry of Transport said it will go through the COI report carefully and a response will be given at the July Parliament sitting. The report will also be made available to members of the public within the next few days.
