StarHub unveils new OTT video service to fend off SingTel’s attempts to snatch market share

SingTel is getting more aggressive in the Pay TV space.

StarHub has rolled out a new over-the-top (OTT) online video streaming service to strenghten its presence in the Pay TV space and fend off SingTel’s efforts to encroach on its market share.

BMI Research noted that StarHub Go, as the new service is called, will allow StarHub to generate stronger pay-TV subscriptions growth by appealing to more cost-conscious subscribers.

It will also open the opportunity to migrate them on to other or upgraded services over the medium term.

“StarHub is aiming to defend market share with the launch of its more flexible and affordable streaming service. Although StarHub has the largest market share of Pay TV customers, telecoms market leader SingTel has been gradually growing its own SingTel TV subscriber base,” BMI Research said.

StarHub Go will deliver existing StarHub TV content to any device, and subscription fees range from $8.56 to $19.90. Existing StarHub TV subscribers will be able to trial this service for free till the end of the year, after which they will be charged a monthly rate of $5.35.
