Moving to cloud can save Singaporean firms up to 76% in energy use: survey

Moving at least one megawatt of workload into the cloud could save a year’s worth of emission from 23,500 households.

Migrating the workload from own data centres to cloud data centres can reduce the energy usage of Singaporean firms by 76%, a survey commissioned by Amazon Web Service (AWS) found out.

The survey also found out that if just 25% of the 1,300 Singaporean firms employing more than 250 employees put one megawatt of computing workloads into the cloud, it would save the equivalent of a year's worth of emissions from 23,500 Singaporean households' electricity use.

Additionally, cloud data centres with the same workloads perform at nearly five times the energy efficiency of APAC on-premises data centres.

Tech companies are playing a significant role in APAC's economic development. As rapid digital transformation puts APAC on the cusp of becoming the world’s technology and innovation hub, governments and enterprises are realising that sustainability will determine the region’s evolution – renewable energy investments in APAC are expected to hit $1.3 trillion by 2030.

APAC is also set to become the world’s largest data centre market by 2025. Amidst ambitious targets set by governments in APAC, the call for private and public sectors to collaborate on sustainable innovation has never been stronger, with cloud being one road to success.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
