Microsoft and IMDA introduces new digital sustainability guidelines

The software industry is responsible for nearly 3% of global carbon emissions.

Microsoft, along with Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), launched guidelines that promote sustainable software design for developers.

Supported by the Green Software Foundation (GSF), the guidelines will drive the development of green software solutions by design for a sustainable digital future from Singapore to a global scale.

According to GitHub, the carbon footprint of the software industry continues to grow alongside the demand for technology in today's digital age, hence the need for carbon-efficient software that minimizes emissions is crucial.

The digital sustainability guidelines aim to enable developers and businesses the ability to understand energy efficiency, carbon awareness, and green software development.

In addition, the guidelines also provide tools and solutions to help them track, report, and reduce carbon emissions during the use of any application. Some of these tools include the GSF’s Carbon Aware software development kit (SDK) and the Microsoft Sustainability Manager.

Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
