M1 rolls out upsized mobile plans as telco pricing war heats up

Two SIM-only plans were unveiled.

M1 has launched two new SIM-only plans and revealed an upsized data bundle for its existing mobile plans, a day after fourth telco hopeful MyRepublic unveiled the details of its mobile and broadband plans.

M1’s new plans are priced at $20 per month and $15 per month. The mySIM+ 20 comes with a data bundle of 4GB, 150 minutes of calls and 800 SMS/MMS. For $15, the mySIM+ 15 offers 1GB data, 100 minutes of calls and 600 SMS/MMS.

M1 also launched an Upsized Data offer priced at S$5.90 per month, which is available to customers who wish to boost their data bundles by up to 12GB. Upsized Data is available on M1’s Lite+ smartphone plans and above.

Analysts fear that M1 will be the most impacted by the entry of a fourth telco.

DBS reckons that M1 will lose 10% of its group revenue to a new player by 2022.

"The new player intends to target consumers with high data-capacity usage (12 GB/month) at low price. However, its network coverage may not match the incumbents’ coverage for a couple of years. We project M1 and StarHub to lose 10% and 4% of their group revenue to this player by 2022," DBS said.
