According to CIMB, M1 noted no competitive flare-ups in the mobile space. Instead, it has withdrawn unlimited data offering on 3G services to customers, hoping to better monetise data traffic.

M1 plans to raise the prices of its LTE/4G services and introduce them to retail users in 2H when coverage is more widespread and more devices are available. It currently charges S$59.40/mth for unlimited data to corporate customers, which is more generous than its 3G/HSPA+ service costing S$59/mth with only 50GB of data.

SingTel, too, is looking to raise LTE data. It has bundled 10GB of LTE data with its Prestige 75 + Premium 21 plan which costs S$69.90. We understand that it plans to drop 3G data bundled with the Prestige 75 plan when its LTE coverage expands to a significant part of the island, i.e. users pay S$69.90 for only 10GB of 4G data vs. the generous 50GB data for 3G plans. Lastly, StarHub told the media that it may “review current (3G) pricing plans and consider introducing usage-based data pricing”.
