SingTel to tap talents in Israel

It will be part of its $161m corporate venture fund.

As part of its new technology investment, Singtel has opened a development centre in Israel on Sunday through an agreement with Amdocs, a software provider for communications and media company.

Singtel stressed that its initial focus include voice and facial recognition, and mobile and Wi-Fi networks integrating technologies.

"More and more mobile customers are using mobile devices for more than just communications," said Allen Lew, chief executive of SingTel's digital life group.

"In our business it's not enough to be up to date, we have to be up to tomorrow."

Lew also added that this Israel-based project will be taken from its corporate venture fund of $161m.

This new technology investment followed the company’s previous ventures in Singapore and Boston which also saw similar development centres.

Singtel also plans to fund academic research and Israeli start-up companies to create more technological advancements. It also plans to work with incubators to discover more sophisticated technologies.
