Tuas Terminal to rev up mega port operations progressively starting 2021

The port will be capable of handling up to 65 million TEUs per annum.

Tuas Terminal mega port will commence phase one of its operations in 2021 and expected to be fully completed in 2040, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) revealed.

It will be able to consolidate all port operations in a single location and be capable of handling up to 65 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs) per annum.

At the opening of the first phase, PSA Corporation will then begin its terminal development of deep-water berths that are able to handle about 20 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per annum.

The announcement follows after the installation of the 221st and final caisson for Tuas Terminal Phase 1 reclamation. Each caisson weighs 15,000 tonnes and measures 40m in length, 28m in width and 28m in height.

The mega port will also feature its two new drones. One is the Temarock rock mound construction vessel that requires multiple vessels for rock laying and compaction, one survey vessel to facilitate operation, and is supported by divers.

The other innovation to be included is the Automatic Rebar Machine using Robotics System (ARMS), which automates the bending and cutting of reinforcement steel bars to the desired design, and then transfers them onto the stacking area.
