Singapore-Rotterdam GDSC adds key partners to boost green goals

It welcomed Hapag-Lloyd and  A*STAR's Centre for Maritime Digitalisation.

The Singapore-Rotterdam Green & Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) welcomed new global value-chain partners to accelerate digitalisation and decarbonisation goals.

The new partners include Hapag-Lloyd, the fifth-largest global liner shipping company operating over 260 vessels, and A*STAR's Centre for Maritime Digitalisation, managed by A*STAR's Institute of High-Performance Computing.

The GDSC has 26 global value-chain partners, comprising shipping lines, fuel suppliers, port authorities, industry coalitions, banks, top educational institutions, and knowledge partners.

The GDSC partners will pilot first-mover projects and test commercial structures to increase the adoption of zero and near-zero emission fuels like synthetic and bio-methanol, ammonia, methane, and hydrogen, with designated working groups examining these fuels.

In addition, the Maritime Port Authority (MPA) will establish a working group to assess the cost and scalability of these fuel-based initiatives.

“This collaboration will allow Singapore and Rotterdam to pilot innovative solutions on one of the world’s busiest shipping routes and accelerate the decarbonisation and digitalisation of the shipping industry,” Teo Eng Dih, MPA CEO, said.
