Singapore declared as maritime capital of the world

It clinched the top sport for the third time.

Singapore was hailed as the top leading maritime capital of the world, according to the latest Menon’s Leading Maritime Capitals of the World Report.

 Singapore ranked first in three categories: shipping, ports and logistics, and attractiveness and competitiveness.

Singapore also scored high in maritime technology and in finance and law. Significantly, Singapore jumped three places from fifth to the second position in the Maritime Technology category, affirming Singapore’s focus on technology, research and development are in the right direction.

The city-state's high ranking was driven by its strategic geographic location, as well as its position as an important centre for commercial management and the world’s second largest port.

More so, the Port of Singapore remains one of the world’s busiest ports. It sustained its performance in 2016, when vessel arrival tonnage increased by 6.3% to 2.66 billion gross tonnes.
