SG, Japan to establish a green and digital shipping corridor

Under the partnership, the Maritime Port Authority will work with six Japanese ports.

Singapore signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Japan to establish the Singapore-Japan Green and Digital Shipping Corridor.

The collaboration will develop standards and best practices supporting the decarbonisation, digitalisation, and growth of the maritime industry in both countries.

Under the collaboration, the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) will work with six Japanese ports, including the Port of Tokyo, the Port of Yokohama, the Port of Kawasaki, the Port of Osaka, the Port of Kobe, and the Port of Nagoya.

The MPA and its Japanese port partners will conduct pilot projects and trials for alternative marine fuels, such as ammonia and hydrogen, and develop the necessary bunkering infrastructure, standards and training. 

The partners will also encourage the development and adoption of technologies to decarbonise port infrastructure. 

Both countries will identify and implement digital solutions to streamline port clearance processes and exchange information on maritime cybersecurity and digitalisation.
