Sembcorp Marine granted $200m contract to build vessel for Brazilian Navy

The vessel will be built for scientific research deployment in the Antarctic.

Semborp Marine, through its subsidiary and special purpose entity, has been granted a $200m contract from Emgepron, a state-owned company in Brazil, for the construction of a support vessel for the Brazilian Navy.

The new build support vessel called “NApAnt” will be used for scientific research deployment in the Antarctic. 

NApAnt will measure 93.9 metres in length, 18.5 metres in width and weigh about 5,800 metric tonnes with a draft of six metres, and built to navigational ice field standards, classified as P-6. 

The company said the vessel will be constructed in the EJA yard in Brazil “to comply with the requirement of local content while drawing from the pooled resources of Sembcorp Marine global network including the extensive knowledge and experience of SMSS in the design and construction of high-performance and specialised vessels.”

The project will commence this year and will be completed in the third quarter of 2025.

Upon completion, NApAnt will replace the ocean support vessel (NApOc) Ary Rongel (H-44), which is approaching the end of its life cycle.
