Sembcorp Marine finally completes Johan Castberg FPSO project

The FPSO project is currently en route for delivery to Norway.

The completion of the Johan Castberg Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for the Equinor Group was announced by Sembcorp Marine.

Included in the scope of work for the Johan Castberg FPSO vessel is the construction of the hull and the living quarters.

The vessel was planned according to FPSO hull main specifications, which includes Norsoks and DNV Class Rules. It also reached the requirements of the Norweigan and Petroleum Safety regulatory conditions.

Other notable milestones hit by the project include 38 million man-hours without serious incidents, and a total recordable incident rate of 0.16, one of the lowest recorded for a newbuild project.

“In the last two years, both Team Equinor and Team Sembmarine worked under extreme challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet both teams remained determined to keep the project going. We witnessed great teamwork and collaboration, open dialogue and close partnership to achieve today’s on-schedule delivery and sailaway, without compromise to high HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment and Quality) standards and rigorous verification processes,” said Wang Zijian, Head of Operations, Sembcorp Marine.

Upon its final completion in Norway, the FPSO vessel is scheduled for deployment at the Johan Castberg field in the Barents Sea, around 240 km from Hammerfest, Norway.
