Seatrium, A*STAR team up to study new energies for offshore and marine sector
They will look into opportunities in new energies and AI that may help the Offshore and Marine industry.
Seatrium Limited and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) have signed a deal on the exploration of opportunities to enhance the Offshore and Marine (O&M) sector.
The two parties signed the memorandum of understanding during the Singapore Maritime Week, according to a joint statement.

Under the agreement, Seatrium will work with A*STAR on co-developing focus areas which include new energies. This will involve studying new energies like hydrogen and ammonia solutions.
Both parties were involved in the first ammonia fuel trial on the Fortescue Green Pioneer and will focus on establishing a sustainable ammonia supply chain and addressing bunkering, transportation, and storage challenges.
Seatrium and A*STAR will also utilise artificial intelligence to explore new solutions in engineering processes, operational efficiency, and decision-making across project lifecycles. This will include the planned development of Large Language Models (LLMs) to improve vessel design and validation turnaround by automating and streamlining parts of the process.
“Through machine learning, manufacturing process technologies and digital solutions, the collaboration will also streamline product development and manufacturing processes, and promote innovation and sustainability in Seatrium’s operations,” the organisations said.
Seatrium CEO Chris Ong said the collaboration wants to accelerate “the energy transition and maritime decarbonisation.” Together with A*STAR, they aim to develop advanced energy solutions that will help the O&M industry in adopting renewable sources more quickly, he added.
