MPA and partners survey Tuas Port for oil slicks

The oil pollution has not affected port operations so far.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the National Environment Agency (NEA) and JTC Corporation (JTC) are investigating reports of periodic oil slicks off Tuas Port waters.

Preliminary investigations and lab tests on oil samples by MPA suggest that the origin is probably further inland.

NEA is investigating potential land-based sources of oil pollution that could have reached the sea via drainage systems. It has also issued waste oil management guidelines to facilities near Tuas Port.

Meanwhile, JTC installed oil booms and CCTV cameras along an open seaward section of a key drainage to monitor oil gathered at the booms. 

Regular and night patrols have been deployed by the MPA and JTC to enhance area surveillance along the Tuas Port with oil spill response craft ready to be activated at short notice.

There is currently no evidence of a single source for the oil pollution and it has not notably affected port operations or navigation.
